We have read your kind reply to our message. From its context we were able to observe with satisfaction that you gladly agree to our request. A plea which you were not obliged to satisfy, so your stance deserves our warm gratitude. Not because of the effort required to carry it out, which, as you objectively recognise, is minimal, but because you could legitimately have taken refuge in a social convention that authorises and even advises you not to help beings who mask themselves in anonymity and whose genuine aims logically cannot be known to you.

 

Aware of your awkward situation, our plea has been of such a nature that it could in no case harm your own sacred personal prestige, since transmitting some figures to your -for us- mysterious correspondent can evidently involve no risk or detriment whatsoever, provided that you, as you sensibly did, do not take responsibility at any level, publicly or privately, for the suitability of our testimony.

 

The suspicion that grips you regarding the identity of our brothers seems to us perfectly logical, understandable and intelligent. We, in your place, would also have been led to weave a very similar hypothesis. No doubt behind the reluctance of some men to present themselves without resorting to anonymity, motives of doubtful morality may always be camouflaged. Your distrust is the natural expression of an exquisite prudence. We cannot feel humiliated by it.

 

But we beg you to make an effort to understand that our situation is at least as awkward as yours with regard to the men of EARTH.

 

In principle we cannot offer objective proofs of our presence among your brothers that would serve you as unquestionable scientific testimony of this reality, of this authentic existence among the members of the social network of EARTH.

 

This obliges us to make a tenacious effort of censorship in our own written documents, a self-censorship that we make even more effective in our contacts by electrophonic channel (telephony).

 

We thus avoid any unconsciously leaked contribution which, once certain limits of informative quality were exceeded, might serve as irrefutable proof of our existence.

 

It is not, therefore, our intention that you should “believe” in our

heteroplanetary presence. An express attitude of doubt and scepticism in your great social body favours us. In this way we manage, on the one hand, to maintain contact with your few brothers who indeed attach little importance to the lack of conclusive proofs but nevertheless accept our testimony to some degree; on the other hand we do not lie when we address you unofficially, although in private, when our physical presence is involved, we are nevertheless obliged to falsify the authentic meaning of our statements when, living with strangers on EARTH, we identify ourselves as citizens of some nation, backed by fraudulent documentation.

 

By our clandestine conduct we do not intend to cause you any harm, but to neutralise any psychosocial reaction with serious consequences for all, by achieving a climate of incredulity in those cases in which news about us spreads through the information vehicles of Earth and reaches a certain disturbing level of circulation, as in the case of your brother, the Catholic priest Enrique López Guerrero.

 

In these situations the enthusiasm shown is forgivable. The Latin temperament justifies and explains such reactions, but those brothers of yours of other nationalities have shown, in their contacts with us, a greater capacity for reserve and mental discretion.

 

It is true that on certain occasions we have come to offer irrefutable proofs of a personal nature to certain brothers of yours on EARTH, although we have then taken severe precautions to prevent an indiscretion or a change of attitude towards us on the part of such OEMMI (men) from seriously harming our rules of reserve.

 

We are prepared, in your case, Mr Donis Ortiz, to offer them to you should you offer yourself as an intermediary between F. ATIENZA and us. Naturally we could not demand such a contact of you, even if it were not physically interpreted, without a material presentation of ours, backed by arguments convincing to you, provided that you could not present the proofs provided in the future. This is perfectly possible and we have operated in this way in certain situations that arose with other OEMMI of EARTH.

 

We wish, sir, to make some clarifications to you, which we ask you to pass on to the interested persons who are your brothers.

 

We do not know who may have sent your brother that badge of the “government” of UMMO (as you indicate) to be worn on a lapel. No doubt it must be some explicable and unimportant confusion, for we know that such a gift has not been made by any of my brothers.

 

We take on board the prudent warning you give us regarding hypothetical murky and immoral aims. We repeat to you that this veiled allusion cannot and must not offend us, since it fits perfectly into the still embryonic beginning of relations in which one of the parties is reluctant to identify itself fully.

 

We understand that our protests or proclamations of honour cannot be valid without being endorsed by our irreproachable conduct in this respect. Sir: for the moment we can only ask you to gather testimony among our own friends on EARTH who can vouch to you for our own honesty.

 

Now we transmit to you the coded text which we beg you to pass on to your strange correspondent Francisco Atienza, from the planet URLN, unknown to us, as soon as you are at a favourable juncture for that oral-telepathic-ideographic communication, or transmitted by any suitable means you consider technically reliable.
